Adrienne J. Auryansen, Consultant

Adrienne Auryansen has worked in the risk management and legal field for over 25 years. She has extensive knowledge in managing and expanding a captive insurance company for a large healthcare organization. Adrienne’s experience in the insurance field includes hospital and physician professional liability, directors and officer’s liability, property and casualty, automobile liability and workers’ compensation.

She has extensive experience and knowledge relating to regulatory agencies and compliance in the healthcare industry, as well as claims management, contract and settlement negotiations, mediations and trial strategy.

Recent Achievements – Adrienne was formerly the Corporate Vice President of Insurance, Claims, and Risk Management at St. Vincents Catholic Medical Centers, where she managed the self-insured and commercially insured risks and claims, and implemented risk management programs to reduce the institutions financial exposure, which insured the delivery of quality care. She developed programs that linked operations and clinical practices with risk management, safety, quality improvement and the credentialing process.

Some of her achievements include expansion of the captive insurance company to cover system-wide exposures of $1.5 billion. She upgraded the information technology system to interface insurance, claims and risk management information. She designed a quality assurance program and physician review process approved by the New York State Department of Insurance which enabled the sale of malpractice insurance policies to attending physicians at a discounted rate. She was also responsible for recouping $6 million arising from insurance coverage disputes.

At the Medical Center she interfaced directly with the Board of Directors, senior executive staff, actuaries, financial staff, domestic and London insurance brokers and underwriters to negotiate consolidated insurance and reinsurance products on primary and excess basis system-wide.

Career History – Adrienne, through her consulting company, was appointed the acting managing attorney of litigation and claims at a prestigious healthcare institution in Baltimore, Maryland.

She has worked extensively with professional liability insurance companies providing institutional and focused liability, regulatory compliance and risk management surveys to its risk management and underwriting staff.

Adrienne has developed and consolidated insurance programs for healthcare institutions, prepared funding analysis for a Westchester County captive insurance company, and audited and prepared reserve analysis for medical malpractice, general liability, and construction defect claims.

Adrienne has worked as an associate attorney in defense and plaintiff’s litigation firms.

She started her career as a registered nurse working at Montefiore Medical Center in the coronary care unit and operating room.

Education – Adrienne is a registered nurse and lawyer; she received her BPS, with distinction, and Law degree from Pace University. During her nursing studies she was on the Phi Sigma Omicron Honor Society, Dean’s List and received a Scholarship Award for academic excellence.

Her studies also include a non-matriculated course study in Law and Medicine at New York Medical College, Graduate Department.
